New Solutions to Increase Energy Efficiency in Buildings
Nanotechnology has now provided an effective and affordable means to increase energy efficiency in pre-existing buildings as well as new construction. Patented Nansulate® thermal insulation coatings offer you a way to increase thermal resistance in a clear, coating which is applied like a paint. Our award-winning coatings not only reduce energy use, they are also moisture and mold resistant, and low VOC.

Nansulate® coatings were used on the Soosung highrise, and is in use on various museums around the U.S. to provide energy savings and improve air quality
Nanotechnology makes the difference
Nansulate® coatings are a patented technology by Industrial Nanotech, Inc. that utilize a nanocomposite with an extremely low thermal conductivity. This material allows the coatings to effectively inhibit heat transfer in a thin layer.
Nansulate® represents the next generation of insulation, providing alternative solutions for sustainability and environmentally friendly energy efficiency. A benefit of the coatings is the increase in resistance of the thermal envelope of a building without reducing square footage.
Nansulate® and LEED
Nansulate® Insulation and Mold Resistant Coatings can assist developers and building owners toward their LEED® certification.
The versatility of Nansulate coatings make them suitable for many of the LEED certification programs for both new and pre-existing buildings. Industrial Nanotech, Inc. is a committed member of US Green Building Council (USGBC) and our products can contribute LEED certification points categories such as Energy & Atmosphere, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Sustainable Sites. Our Nansulate Translucent GP product has been thoroughly reviewed by NSF International and is registered in their R2 category for non-food compounds.
Nansulate® Benefits for Buildings
* Keeps buildings cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter by reducing heat transfer through walls and ceilings
*ISO testing for building assemblies shows Nansulate® reduces heat flow through a building assembly by 34.8% and increases thermal resistance by 28.8%
* Resistant to mold and mildew growth
* Clear, matte finish does not interfere with design aesthetics
* Low cost at .50 to .59 cents per s.f.
* Perfect for daylighting versatility - Allows in diffused light while providing a barrier to heat transfer through windows and skylights
* Easily applied with sprayer, brush, or roller
* Non-toxic, water-based, low VOC (100 g/L)
* Permeable - 5 perms/inch @ 23 deg. C
* Reduces building energy consumption and emissions
* Nansulate® Translucent GP holds NSF registration in the R2 category
The U.S. Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org) has all the resources you need to begin learning about LEED ratings and certification levels for:
New Construction - Existing Buildings - Commercial Interiors - Core & Shell
- Schools - Retail - Healthcare - Homes
LEED does not specifically certify products, however products, such as our Nansulate® coatings can help you toward earning LEED points toward LEED certification.

Thermal bridging is also reduced because the coatings can be applied to surface areas where heat loss/gain is an issue due to conduction through materials. Thermal bridging occurs in building envelopes when relatively high thermal conductivity materials such as steel and concrete create pathways for heat loss. An insulation in coating form is easily applied over entire wall and ceiling surfaces, so thermal bridging is either eliminated or greatly reduced.

| The photos illustrate how thermal bridging happens through the studs in the home (see photo at left Photo courtesy of buildinggreen.com.) where traditional insulation cannot be used. Using Nansulate® thermal insulation coating over the entire wall surface greatly reduces heat flow through those thermal bridging areas. (see photo at right) |
Nansulate® provides a health benefit by not harboring moisture, dust, mold, or dirt, which are factors that reduce traditional insulation’s effectiveness over time and decrease air quality.
Solutions for Sustainability:

INSULATION - BUILDING ENVELOPE
Nansulate® provides a flexible insulation solution for commercial and public buildings. It can be applied on walls, ceilings, and other areas of the building envelope, while allowing the visual appeal of the building to remain intact. Unlike traditional forms of insulation, Nansulate® will not get infiltrated by moisture, mold, dust, or pests - and therefore maintains its insulating ability over time.
Nansulate® coatings were used on interior walls and ceilings of a luxury apartment building owned by Hyundai to provide insulation and resistance to mold and moisture. Nansulate® was also used as a sustainable solution on the airway bridge roof panels for the new Suvanabhumi International Airport in Thailand, and was used by the Seattle Flight Museum to protect a historic aircraft from moisture and corrosion.

INSULATION - DAYLIGHTING
Nansulate® over windows and skylights allows in diffused light, while insulating windows against heat transfer. Well designed daylighting allows in natural light that balances overhead electric lighting needs while curtailing glare. Nansulate® allows 92% visible light transmittance and provides the opportunity to daylight without sacrificing building thermal performance.
Nansulate® coatings were used on the skylights at the Frost Art Museum in Miami, FL. The museum uses multiple skylights to allow natural light into the building, and Nansulate® was used to reduce heat transfer and glare. Nansulate® was also used by Cornwell Quality Tools Corporation in a large energy efficiency upgrade, reducing heat transfer through facility windows and helping reduce energy costs by $30,000 over a 4 month period.

SUSTAINABILITY - AIR QUALITY
Nansulate® coatings are naturally resistant to mold growth (without use of moldicides) and therefore will benefit air quality in a building by reducing potential for mold and mildew. There is also a version of Nansulate® - LDX, which can be used for encapsulation of dangerous lead-based paint. Nansulate® LDX is a clear, smooth lead encapsulation coating which can be used over a variety of surfaces. All Nansulate® coatings are low VOC and environmentally friendly. Nansulate® coatings were used in facilities buildings at Pearl Harbor in order to encapsulate lead-based paint and improve air quality. Nansulate® has also been used by the Torit Language Center School to provide protection from lead based paint for students, and in Atlanta, GA for commercial building restoration to improve air quality by reducing mold growth and encapsulate lead based paint.
