Product used: Nansulate® HomeProtect Clear Coat

"I painted 3 coats of clear coat on the backside of my wicker rollup window blinds in my south-facing bedroom. I have just two remaining single paned windows in my home, having replaced most for new double panted windows. The two large single paned windows in my bedroom let so much heat thru on hot days that my bedroom becomes uncomfortable, making it hard to sleep even at night. It was so quick and easy to remove the blinds, put them on the floor with a sheet of thick rosin paper underneath them, and paint them with a roller. After the last of 3 coats I hung them back up to finish drying on the rod.

After painting the rollup blinds my bedroom was so much more comfortable on the following hot days and nights of late summer. I haven't painted the ceiling or exterior walls of the bedroom yet, which will make it even more comfortable.

I've also purchased the Crystal roof coating. I want to paint it on the roof of my rental house so my tenants can enjoy warmer winters and cooler summers as well as lower electric bills. I will do the application myself."

"We (I) have used up the last dregs of Nansulate on the front walls of the parlor. 5 gallons are on the house's outside walls (mostly) and we will be ordering more sometime in the winter so we can have some handy after the new roof is installed.

Coverage was almost exactly 150 sq. ft per gallon when 3 coats were applied over the horsehair and lime top coat on the rock walls of our house. Inside the temperature has been lowered from 5 - 7 degrees overall on the south facing wall, amazing!

The most interesting experimental use of Nansulate for me has been on my little gas oven. I've coated the sides of the thing with 3 coats as Industrial Nanotech has instructed and wow...what a difference in performance after about 3 weeks of curing.
I can get temperatures above 650 degrees...the limit of my temp measuring equipment was 650F so if it was higher I'll not know...yet! But the upside is that the leakage from the sides has been cut dramatically...enough that it reaches 450 degrees in 20 minutes where it used to take 50! The sides aren't cool..but they won't burn you either...which is another dramatic improvement.

The refrigerators are equally happy about having their outsides coated in Nansulate Home Coat...they now are turned to their lowest setting and still are very, very cold inside, below 40 degrees...and the freezer is now at -45 degrees F! it was -25. Of course I HAD to give the water heater it's requisite three coats too and the heat loss thru the sides and top has been improved dramatically with the before temp typically 10 degrees above the ambient temp of the room, now it is but 4 degrees above. This will certainly improve the electric bill as well.

All in all things have changed for the better, how much money it will wind up saving us is hard to say now as billing for electricity is a not so often occurrence here in France. I'll report though when I get some actual invoice numbers.

Letter to our Michigan Independent Sales Representative, Douglas Drew of Green Earth Coatings

I would like to offer a few words of praise for the Nansulate product. My girlfriend and I both live in a very old house in downtown Detroit, circa 1890’s, and the cost to heat our home is outrageous. I did some research and discovered Green Earth Coatings, a “Green” construction and painting company. Doug suggested we try a coating called Nansulate.

We applied the Nansulate product in our upstairs unit in hopes of eliminating the need to continually run heat up there throughout the winter months, as we have an extremely old furnace and heating system. The product was easy to apply, (we did it ourselves), and the results were almost instantaneous. The upstairs unit retained a more constant temperature and was consistently more comfortable without the need to pump more and more heat and money up there.

I would highly recommend the Nansulate product line and Green Earth Coatings to anyone who is trying to make their home more comfortable and save money on their heating bills.

Application: "I applied Nansulate PT on my garage door last year. It works like magic. My garage is usually ten to fifteen degrees cooler than the outside temperature in the Texas summer. It is warmer than the outside temperature in the winter. Before I painted the garage door, the garage was usually seven to ten degrees warmer than the outside temperature in the summer. I sprayed the the underside of my roof deck with four coats of Nansulate HomeProtect Clear Coat about seven weeks ago. So far my attic is never more than the outside temperature. I added attic insulation and a solar fan at the same time I sprayed my attic. I am truly amazed with your product."

"We have a western facing sliding glass door in our master bedroom that gets full exposure to the sun, and yesterday temperatures reached over 90 degrees F. This room really heats up in the late afternoons during the summer. Last fall, I decided to coat half the blinds with Nansulate Clear Coat and leave the other half uncoated. With the sun hitting the closed blinds in the late afternoon, I could feel the difference in the amount of heat coming off of the backside of the blinds into our bedroom. My issue is an 80 year old house without insulated walls. Most of my interior walls are still plaster and lathe – so I was looking for an insulating option that I could tackle myself and that did not involve ripping down walls. Enter Nansulate. I did a test run on two un-insulated dormer closets; before Nansulate I could feel heat waves come my way when I walked into the room, but not post Nansulate. I then received your email about insulating the inside perimeter of a house and decided that it was not only a good idea but also a project I could easily handle one room at a time. After some measuring and calculations, I saw it was also very affordable.

2) Where did you apply Nansulate®?

I applied Nansulate on the inside of my house, on all exterior walls and doors. I worked my way through the house one room at a time.

3) Please tell us how Nansulate® helped you? (What were the results)

I keep a careful spreadsheet of heating expenses and so far, even though this has been a long and cold winter, I have used about 20% less than last year. Take in to account that I decided to keep the house 2 degrees warmer during the day and 4 degrees warmer at night! So I am quite happy and had a much more comfortable winter.

4) Please add any other comments that you like:

I used the clear semi-gloss version; in some rooms I painted over Nansulate and in some (bathroom, kitchen) I left Nansulate as the top coat. I also Nan-insulated my last dormer closet and attic stairs; I was surprised how nice the wood lining looks with several layers of Nansulate.

I live in a 2-bedroomed bungalow with solid walls. In June 07' I painted the internal outside walls with Nansulate and also the immersion tank and pipes.

re: Application

The paint was very easy to use, with good coverage, considering I had to apply 3 coats.

re: Results

Prior to painting, our heating costs were quite high compared to what they are now. In fact, since applying the Nansulate I have been able to lower the thermostat from 5.5/6 to 3, basically halving the temperature. The bungalow is definitely warmer. I am now going to Nansulate the outside external walls which should result in even greater savings in heating costs.

I would certainly recommend Nansulate to anyone who wants to reduce their heating costs. In fact, my sister and her two sons, have now Nansulated their homes. (It was through my sister who lives in Swords, that I was able to order the Nansulate from you).

"Problem: I live in a 40-year old block of apartments. After installing new plastic windows in my apartment, I experienced mold on the interior side of the wall in close surrounding to the windows.

I applied Nansulate HomeProtect Clear Coat to the exterior side of the wall, because I believe insulation from the exterior side is more efficient. Application was made in the begnning of March - early Spring in our area.

After application, mold stopped growing. I will see how it works also during next winter when the problem is most visible, but I believe that it will work. I tried your paint because we cannot agree with other owners of our apartments about total reconstruction of the facade (polystyrene or mineral wool systems), so I was forced to protect my wall individually."

This new 4500 square foot home in Sherman, Texas was completed early in 2007. The architect projected a $450 monthly electric bill with traditional insulation being used. Application: "The product is being applied to the interior perimeter walls of the home."

How it Helped: "The really bad weather has arrived. In past years, after we turned down the heat at night the home's interior temperature would go down to 56 well before morning, leaving the furnace to come on at least twice before we awoke. This was in any lower than freezing weather and sometimes even in weather that was 40 degrees."

Other Comments: "The house walls are 6" deep and fully insulated. The ceilings are protected by 14" of cellulos material. We have only done seven of 16 perimeter walls. The walls on the unprotected end of the house are the ones we have completed. This week the weather has gone cold, single digits and about 10 degrees. Each night we have had that weather we have had a temperature of at least 59 when we awake mornings. That is a full four degrees higher than ever before AND we've not completed the job! Not once has the furnace come back on during the night. And, during the day the furnace seems to be comming on fewer times than ever."
